WSRCF - WaFlorA Scholarship & Research Charitable Fund
The WaFlora Scholarship & Research Charitable Fund (WSRCF) was
formed in 1991. The Henry Mollgaard Memorial
Donation was the basis for this corporation.
We now have over $140,000 in the fund. Since
1991, additional named memorial donations have
been established in the names of: Elaine McConkey,
Dr. Bernie Wesenberg, Wileywood/wayfarer, and
Dr. Charles Pfeiffer.
The term ‘base fund’ means the amount that is retained
each year. The scholarships awarded annually are from interest earned
by investing the base fund. Thus, the WSRCF base fund continues to
grow with every Scholarship Auction and donations given. Since the
original donation over 25 scholarships, of $500 - $2000 each, have
been awarded to assist students in education in floriculture and related
fields.
The Scholarship Board of Directors enthusiastically accepts donations
for the base fund as single named gifts of $2500 or more. This creates
a “Named Scholarship”, and can be a memorial if desired.
Suppliers, members, and GMI attendees have all graciously donated
goods and services for the auctions held each year at GMI (Greenhouse
Management Institute). Outside of the original Mollgaard donation,
the Flower Growers of Puget Sound (FGPS) have been the largest single
contributors to the WSRCF base fund.
Individuals who are interested in floriculture or horticulture are
encouraged to apply for a scholarship from the WSRCF to help them
continue their education, obtain a degree, or to further their education
via pertinent seminars.
- Eligibility for the WSRCF Scholarship is very open; the only true
requirement is an interest and pursuit in the floricultural/horticultural
field of study. Submittal deadline is May 15th of each year.
- Eligibility for the WSRCF Continuing Education (CE) Scholarship
requires WaFlorA membership or a direct relationship to a current
member. This CE Scholarship is for attendance to any seminar or conference – such
as GMI, the Ohio Short Course, and other industry technical seminars
or conferences. Applications must be received five (5) weeks prior
to event and grants will only cover registration costs, not travel
or accommodations.
